Things are certainly happening at the moment. Lots of things.
- We got engaged in September last year
- We started new jobs in December/January
- We bought a place (!) and are moving this week
- We’re getting married in November
There are a hell of a lot of things going on at the moment, and it’s kinda terrifying and amazing at the same time. It’s been a whirlwind, and I’m so glad I have my fiancé by my side for the journey (god, that sounds a bit cliché!).
So, this update will be about our first property purchase (gah, can’t believe it!).
We went looking for places in March and April this year, and were a bit turned off by what was available. Small apartments for over $1m. That’s Sydney for you! We were looking in Waterloo, Surry Hills, and Alexandria. And then, one day, as I was visiting my parents and seeing friends, I realised just how far away those places were from where majority of my friends and family were living. The long drive home proved that, and South Dowling — notorious for its bumper-to-bumper traffic — sealed the deal for me. No more inner city. Eastern suburbs was where we would be looking. Luckily, my fiancé was very understanding, and it only took one trip over South Dowling for him to agree that Eastern Suburbs would be better for us for the future.
So off we went to Bondi Junction and Edgecliff and Randwick, falling in and out of love with places that had high ceilings and large bedrooms. And, on one of the days, I suggested we look at an off-market property in Randwick, with the price being just a bit too high for us. But we went anyway.
Within minutes, we were in love. High ceilings, big bedrooms, great area, loads of parking, and situated on a cul-de-sac with a park at the end. Perfection. To top it off, we’re on the top floor, meaning no weird noises from above. And the block only has 8 apartments.
We murmured excitedly to each other, talking about the size of the place, the location, everything. And then my face dropped. “It’s too expensive,” I said. But we looked at our finances, and realised it was doable. So, we made an offer a few days later. And within a couple of days, it was ours. Problem was, we had to wait THREE MONTHS until we could move in. And that day is Thursday (today is Monday).
So, with everything going on, I thought I should give a bit of an update about what’s happening in our lives. I promise to write about our wedding planning process soon!
Wow, how exciting, congratulations on finding a place, and I’m so glad you kept looking until you fell in love, I can’t wait to hear and see more of your new place!
