I’ve always found it funny how we Australians celebrate the Queen’s birthday in June, seeing as her actual birthday is in March. But hey, who am I to question a public holiday?
I’ve pulled together a nice little list of all the fun events and activities on around Sydney.
Saturday 10th June
Gin tastings @ InterContinental Double Bay
It’s World Gin Day on Saturday 10th June, so there are a few exciting gin-related events on around Sydney. There’s a Gin Tasting at the InterContinental Double Bay, where you can enjoy canapés while sipping on a couple of different gins. Buy tickets here.
Manly Spirits Co. and Gin Lane World Gin Day
Another World Gin Day event! Enjoy a tour and tasting at the Manly Spirits Co. Distillery at 1.30pm, and try some of the great gin cocktails in the Distillery Tasting Bar. There’ll also be a food truck on site! Buy tickets here.
Wild Turkey Way
The Wild Turkey Way event series will hit Sydney hotspots this long
weekend. Guests will also be among the first to experience the new signature
cocktail, the Wild Turkey Kentucky Firebird — a smoke-infused drop that
enhances the bold flavours of real bourbon. Other signature serves on offer include the lemon and honey-infused Wild Turkey Gold Rush and the refreshing Wild Turkey Fresh Apple with crisp, freshly squeezed apple juice and a dash of lime.
Available at Coogee Bay Hotel and Taylors Rooftop.
Sunday 11th June
E.P. & L.P takeover Dolphin Hotel
Get a slice of LA in Sydney at The Dolphin Hotel, Surry Hills! The menu includes blue swimmer crab congee, tofu fries, and Lou Dogg’s famed crispy chicken sandwich, with a unique drinks menu too!
Newtown Chilli Festival
Yes, it has been cold. Yes, it has been raining. Yes, it has been pretty miserable. So Newtown’s Bank Hotel will be hosting a Chilli Festival to bring us some warmth this weekend. There’ll be a chilli eating competition, chilli BBQ specials, chilli-inspired cocktails, as well as The Chilli Brew Off.
Monday
High tea at Jamaica Blue Westfield Chatswood
Celebrate the Queen’s birthday with a high tea at Jamaica Blue in Chatswood! Complete with three-tiers of delicious savoury and sweet options,
freshly baked scones, as well as a selection of premium teas, Royal
Albert Crockery, fresh flowers and beautifully decorated tables. From 2pm-4pm, contact hightea@jamaicablue.com.au for details or visit Jamaica Blue’s Facebook page.
Saturday and Sunday
Harvest Festival
If you’re up for a day trip, head up to the Central Coast for the annual Harvest Festival! There are open farms willing to educate, markets to peruse, long lunches to enjoy, and loads more. Find out more here.
Cooking with Christina Batista
Parklea Markets is hosting four cooking demonstrations with 2013 MasterChef Finalist, Christina Batista. Christina will create and demonstrate how to cook two delicious winter warming dishes using beautiful, fresh produce from Parklea Market providers that you too will be able to create at home. Dishes will include a Velvety Cauliflower Soup and Spicy Lamb Shanks, to be matched perfectly with a glass of James Estate Wine. Buy tickets here
All weekend
Get 20% of at Tulloch Wines
Tulloch’s Cellar Door (Corner of McDonalds & DeBeyers Road, Pokolbin) is offering 20% off Cellar Door Release Range Wines if you use the code LongWeekend20 at the checkout. Please note this is only an in-store offer, but at least now you have a great excuse to head to the Hunter Valley this weekend!
Transport Heritage Expo
