So, as I explained in this post, I had recently bought Benefit’s They’re Real! Push-Up Liner, but had found that I had to set aside around 30 minutes to perfect it. So, I went on my merry way and bought Napoleon Perdis’s Matte Eye Ink, in the hope that I would be able to shorten the length of time it was taking me to do my eye make up. And yeah, it halved the time. And yeah, it made my eyes look nice.
But it stung.
Like… a lot. I’m not sure if it was meant to sting or not, but it did. And no, I wasn’t putting it on my eyeball. It was as though whatever was making it go from shiny to matte was burning my eyelid at the same time. It. Hurt. So. Much. It stopped me from doing anything else for then next ten minutes after applying, as it was so painful. So I went off and bought Rimmel’s Scandaleyes. I just wanted to find an eyeliner that was both easy to put on and waterproof. The Napoleon Perdis Matte Eye Ink was definitely not water- or smudge-proof (as I later found out when I went to the bathroom and found myself looking like a racoon). So, of course the cheap, Rimmel-brand Scandaleyes was going to be a good choice to get me through the week. But I was so wrong.
You know how your eyelids crease a bit every now and then? Well, the Scandaleyes decided that they were going to define my eyelid creases for fun. For a laugh. For humour’s sake. So I had almost-jagged lines along my eyelid, making everything ten times worse. And it didn’t matter what I did, it would still highlight and define and sharpen (etc.) all of those little creases. Was terrible.
So…I have a confession to make. Even though Benefit’s They’re Real! Push-Up Liner takes a gazillion years to apply, I’m using it again. Yes, the design is a bit silly. Yes, it takes time. However, at the end of the day, it doesn’t smudge, it gives a good result, and you end up feeling accomplished once you’re done applying it.
So, I want to apologise to my Benefit eyeliner, and explain to it that I secretly still love it.
Gel eyeliner for the win!
